Common Questions About Applications

When should we start the process?

While full eligibility begins at 21, you can start at age 18. We recommend beginning early to ensure a smooth transition

How long does the eligibility process take?

It can take up to 60 days for DDD to notify you of eligibility. If the application is incomplete, it can take longer. We'll be happy to review your application to be sure it is complete before you send it.

We're moving to New Jersey - where do we start?

We often work with families or residents relocating to NJ. Your first step is to establish residency, and we'll help you transfer any existing service documentation.

What costs should we expect?

  • DDD/Medicaid funding covers most residential services and support.

  • Residents contribute 75% of their monthly SSI for room and board and Contribution to Care

  • Personal expenses (PNA) are separate - 20%, to be put on the resident's personal debit card

  • 5% remains with the guardian

Can we visit before applying?

Absolutely! We encourage families to tour our homes and meet our care team. It's the best way to get a feel for our warm, supportive environment.

As the parent, am I the person applying, or my child?

Your child is technically the one applying, but family or friends can help with the process of completing your DDD's Application for Eligibility. However, you would not be applying on their behalf. Reach out to us if you need help with this.
